Frequently asked questions

Why has East Sussex All-Stars been set up?

Within our smaller clubs there are often standout players whose only prospect of playing at a higher level is to leave their home club and join a larger club with the breadth and depth of squad. This can be unsatisfactory for all: players are forced to prioritise their own progression over playing with friends, and smaller clubs are stuck in a perpetual cycle of losing their most talented players and unable to develop their own performance pathways. The All-Stars has been set up to counter these problems.

Will my child have to leave their home club if they join the East Sussex All-Stars programme?
Absolutely not! East Sussex All-Stars is an extension of collaborating clubs, not a replacement. The All-Stars programme relies on players continuing to train with their home club and is specifically designed to complement club training. Whilst players who compete with All-Stars at the regional level won’t be eligible to represent their club in the County League, they will still:
⭐️ Train weekly with their home club.
⭐️ Play in the Local League, keeping those important friendship bonds and their place in the team.

What age do you have to be to join All-Stars?
The Netball South Regional leagues are for U13s / U14s / U16s and U19s. All-Stars would like to invite athletes Year 6 through to 18. To be eligible for the regional entry tournament and U19 playoffs, players must be under the maximum age for the specific division before 1st September 2025.

Who will coach the All-Stars squads?
The coaching team and strategy will be shaped by qualified coaches from each of the collaborating clubs (Eastbourne, Boost,  Seaford and Mini Queens). This ensures that knowledge, experience, and expertise are shared, and every athlete benefits from a truly collective approach.

What are the costs?
The All-Stars 5-hour intensive training days cost £30 (plus a transaction fee). Kit, competition entry and league matches will be additional. The initiative is not-for-profit – fees are purely to cover costs.

Why is this a good idea?
Currently, our most talented athletes are spread across different clubs and schools, which makes it harder to be competitive at the regional level. By combining our county’s top talent into one squad for each age division, we can:
⭐️ Showcase the strength of our area on the regional platform.
⭐️ Prevent players from having to travel long distances (to Brighton, Horsham, etc) or move to other clubs just to access regional opportunities.
⭐️ Keep talent local whilst still providing the pathway ambitious athletes desire.

Will this affect my child’s regular training?
No. Players will continue to train with their home clubs as normal. All-Stars is an addition – it relies on home clubs to provide the weekly foundation of training, whereas All-Stars will focus on tactical, strategic, and performance development.

Does my child have to attend every training session?
Your child will need to attend as many training sessions as possible. It goes without saying that the more committed players are to training, the more they will progress.
What are the benefits of joining the All-Stars programme for my child?
⭐️ Talent identification – spotting and supporting promising players.
⭐️ Increased participation – players are inspired by seeing a visible pathway to higher levels.
⭐️ Player development pathway – a clear route from grassroots through to elite netball.
⭐️ Access to elite coaching – specialised, high-quality coaching in technical, tactical, and positional play.
⭐️ High-performance environment – training and playing with other motivated athletes raises standards. Not only will your child benefit from a high-performance environment but schools and local clubs will also gain from improved, stronger players.
⭐️ Game analysis – video and statistical breakdowns to refine skills and decision-making.
⭐️ Remaining with their home club – players can stay connected to their friends, coaches, and teammates, whilst also developing in a performance environment that prepares them for the regional stage.
